QR label printing cost calculator

The cost of QR labels for N packs is the number of labels you order (packs × labels per pack, plus spares for misprints) times the per-label price on your printer's quote, plus any one-off setup fee. The QR code itself is free. Enter your own quote below; the calculator does not assume a label price.

If the QR opens a trace page for each batch, the plan that hosts those pages is a separate monthly cost, shown on its own line. Everything runs in your browser.

1. Label printing (from your quote)

2. Trace pages (optional)

Label printing estimate

Enter the number of packs and the per-label price from your printer's quote. We don't assume a price: it depends on material, size, finish and run length.

Separate line: trace-page plan (not part of the printing cost)

Enter how many batches you make a month to see which plan covers them and its cost per batch. The table below lists every plan.

How the estimate is worked out

  • Labels to order = packs × QR labels per pack × (1 + spare %), rounded up.
  • Printing = labels to order × your per-label price.
  • Total = printing + one-off setup fee. Per pack = total ÷ packs.

What moves the per-label price: material (paper stickers, or synthetic labels for cold-chain and wet conditions), size, finish, run length and lead time. Printing labels in-house on a thermal or sheet printer trades unit price for your own time and consumables. Keep the printed code scannable: at least about 2×2 cm, dark on light, with a clear quiet zone.

IndiTrace plan cost per batch

This is a separate cost from printing. IndiTrace plans are priced per month in proof credits. As a rule of thumb from the pricing page, a typical batch with its source and one processing step uses about 2 credits; QR scans never use credits. At 2 credits per batch, and using all of a month's credits:

PlanMonthly priceProof creditsBatches coveredPlan cost per batch

Growth$9.995025$0.40
Pro$19.9912562$0.32

Introductory monthly prices in US dollars, from the pricing page. Batches that use more steps use more credits; the cost per batch falls when you use all of a plan's credits.

Print a QR that opens this batch

IndiTrace prints a QR label for each batch you record, and the code opens that batch's trace page with no app or login. Start with the free pack.

Questions

Does the QR code itself cost anything?
No. A QR code is just an encoded web address, and generating one is free. The cost is the label or packaging it is printed on, plus whatever service keeps the page it opens online.
Why does the calculator not suggest a price per label?
Label prices depend on material, size, finish, quantity and the printer, and we have no sourced price list that would be fair to use as a default. Ask two or three printers for a quote on your actual label and enter it.
Is a batch-level QR code more expensive to print than one code for every pack?
It can be. One code for a whole product can go on the packaging plate. A code that opens a page for each batch changes with every batch, so it needs per-batch stickers or variable-data printing on the pack.
