Creating Batches

Record a batch from your farmers: farmer, product, harvest date, quantity, a capture video and photos. Then add documents and processing.

A batch is one lot of produce from your own farmers, such as 500 kg of turmeric harvested on one day. Each batch gets a batch ID and a QR code that opens its public trace page.

Bought the produce from a trader, market or other supplier instead? Record a procurement instead: the Record a Procurement button sits at the top of the New Batch page.

Before you begin

  • Add the farmers the produce came from.
  • Add the product under Products (a name and, if you like, a variety, image and origin story).
  • Have your phone ready to record a short video of the harvest or stock.

Step 1: Fill in the items

Open Batches and choose New Batch. On Create New Batch, each item has:

  • Farmer: who grew it
  • Product
  • Harvest Date
  • Quantity and Unit: kilograms, tons, quintals, litres or boxes

If the lot came from several farmers, choose Add Item for each one. The Total Quantity is the sum of the items.

Step 2: Record the capture video

Under Capture Video, record and upload a short video of the harvest or stock. You can create the batch as soon as the upload is confirmed. The IndiTrace team reviews the video before the batch's proof is published.

Step 3: Add photos

Under Batch & Produce Photos, upload harvest photos. If you add none, the product's catalog image is used. Photos are locked into the batch record once it is created.

Step 4: Create the batch

Choose Create Batch. The batch gets its ID, for example B68286692756350, and appears in Batches. Each batch uses one proof credit when its record is written to the blockchain; if you have no credits left, IndiTrace tells you and points you to Billing.

On the batch page

Open a batch to see these tabs:

  • Overview: the batch's details and status.
  • Sources: the farmers and locations it came from.
  • Processing: steps recorded on this batch, and invitations sent to outside processors.
  • Documents: lab reports, certificates, invoices and other files. Lab reports and certificates appear on the public trace page; invoices and other documents stay private. Documents can't be deleted; uploading a new version keeps the old one on record.
  • Verification: the review of your capture video and the blockchain proof.

Share or print label gives you the QR code and label (see Generating Labels), and Public trace opens the page your buyers see.

Correcting a mistake

A batch's farmer, product, date and quantity can't be edited once it is created, because its record is fingerprinted. If something is wrong, admins can Discard this batch and record it again. Only batches that have not been processed or used can be discarded.
